Travel Accommodations

Traveling with your teenagers can be a relatively straightforward experience as long as you are well organized, especially when it comes to accommodations. Few things are more frustrating than discovering that it does not meet expectations, or worse finding out there was a mix up and your accommodations are no longer picture of small village accomodationavailable. Generally we rent apartments with full amenities when we travel with the family. (see the VRBO listing below for apartments - a great site) Before we book, we make sure the kitchen is well equipped, a washer and dryer is available (desirable), and most importantly, there is a separate room for mom and dad.

Recently we traveled to the French Riviera, a great family vacation area for those looking for a combined French – Italian experience, we rented a spacious 2-level apartment with a breathtaking view of the Mediterranean. Our dinning room window framed a view of the Italian border, the sea, the beach and a marina, all a few steps away.  The apartment contained a full kitchen, a large bedroom, and two pull out sofa beds in the living room – it was very accommodating, and reasonably priced! Two bathrooms, a dishwasher and washing machine completed the ensemble.

Our Paris stay lasted a week (Parisian Latin Quarter). The Paris Metro was a short walk from the apartment.  One Paris Metro ticket is 1.40 € (euro); buying in packages of 10 sells for 10.90 €. The metro is extremely convenient in Paris and a great means of travel. Having the metro tickets on hand prevents waiting in line to buy tickets, or trying to figure out the automated teller machines. Traveling to the Louvre Museum, the Musee D’Orsay (Museum), the Jardins Luxembourg (Gardens), the Seine River, the Batobus Paris water taxi, and Notre Dame Cathedral was only a short hop away on the Metro. Our Parisian apartment was a two bedroom spacious apartment with a working kitchen, clothes and dishwasher, and one bathroom – small by North American standards, large by European standards. King size beds are few and far between in Paris, especially in reasonably priced accommodations.
